2019 SMR 12

Woke up feeling GREAT.  My oatmeal was GREAT.  My coffee was GREAT (Starbucks Veranda Light Roast, French Press).  Seemed a little cold during the dog walk, so I put on arm warmers for the ride.

Oh yeah, today's the Devil Mountain Double ... hazzah to all you guys.  The Park hadn't opened the exit gate yet though and the riders were all coming down.  They had to go out the in gate or climb through the barrier.  They were about mile 35 at this point... we saw the last couple dozen, most were already on their way to Morgan Territory Road by 8am.  Saw the last SAG vehicle about 8:45.

So yeah it was a little cool, but the air quality was GREAT, and there wasn't much wind, and there are still lots of wild flowers and running water in the creeks.

That's right fans, tomorrow your humble blogger completes his 60th orbit around the Sun.

2019 WNR 07

Finished work early.  It was HOT.  Feeling cheated out of my Summit last Saturday because of the cold and fog... so today I did a DOUBLE Junction.  My plan was to do the first Junction at a good pace starting about 3:30 and be back to The Church in time for the group ride at 5:30.  Plan executed flawlessly.

It also gave me an interesting opportunity to post photos of the same spot at different times - see captions.

Junction 1, Photo 1.
Junction 2, Photo 1.  No change.

Junction 1, Photo 2.

Junction 2, Photo 2.  Hmmm interesting cloud over there.

Junction 1, Photo 3.

Junction 2, Photo 3.  Interesting cloud getting higher.

Shawn takes group selfies on every ride.

2019 SMR 11

Cold and foggy this morning - even got rained on a little.
Then we quit at Junction.

This guy was doing hill repeats up The Bump

More Earth Day volunteers in The Park today.

2019 WNR 06

Charlie just retired so he'll be riding a lot more now.  Colin came tonight but he says kid soccer is starting up so he'll be riding less.

First ride of the season on My Klein.... felt good, new tires on him too.  My feet felt like they got bigger over the winter though because the Sidi's were pretty tight.

Man the bugs were bad at Junction.

2019 SMR 10

Still some soreness in the old legs.  The Mountain was really crowded today with
  1. Earth Day volunteers doing trail maintenance
  2. Some kind of organized trail run with food tables and everything
  3. Wildflower fans checking out the poppies and locoweed (they are pretty!)
  4. Regular riders and hikers enjoying the park.
So we got passed by a lot of cars and a significant fraction of the drivers didn't understand mountain road driving.  JB said he only did Junction last week when I was at Eroica, because RAIN.  The weather today was perfect, although I like it a little colder than he does.

And tomorrow is Paris Roubaix, so that means I switch from my winter bike to my summer bike for the next Diablo ride.
