2016 SMR 17

Great day on The Mountain today.  Warm and clear... a little windy.

Wildlife Encounter:  two jackrabbits.

This guy was breathing like a diesel engine.
He had a cool Rivendellish bike with cork handlebar grips.

Wildlife Encounter:  something that looks like a lizard but runs like a rat... ran across the road in front of us.

After The Bump, we met Juan.  He's training for the Death Ride.  He lives in Davis but hails from the Basque Country in Spain.

I asked him for some proof - check this out.

There were a couple places where the wind got nasty, but it wasn't steady.

Hey - check THIS out!

2016 AMGEN Tour of California Santa Rosa Stage 7 VIP

DiabloWife got me a VIP pass to the AMGEN for my birthday so I spent the day in Santa Rosa.

Started to rain but mostly it was nice weather.

Peter Sagan, World Champion,
Tour of Flanders winner, AMGEN Green Jersey owner,
and all-time AMGEN stage win leader...
photo bombs my selfie.

The anti-doping RV.  Wonder what that looks like inside?

This reporter from the newspaper interviewed me about the event.  There was some community controversy about having the Rose Parade and the Amgen on the same day.  As usual with these things, my fifteen minutes of pontificating got cut down to about four sentences.

Not sure if that link will survive, so I snipped the relevant part.

Also as usual, the complainers show up in the comment section.  Here's my favorite... "have the bike race on the bike trail".  ROFL.

Ja, ja... this a social ride will be.

Already isolated at The Bump

At least I passed this guy

Big Shady Oak:  1 mile to go.

Steel toed boots for riding shoes

I'll lead the way down.

Kenny hasn't ridden with us for a while... welcome back.

OK, let's put this ride to bed.

2016 SMR 16

8 at the Gate

JB said there were 40mph winds at Summit so I decided today would be a Junction ride.

Word is the crack patching project is happening soon.  Will not include the one-lane repair though.

Hey check this out - Kevin and I are doing a charity ride on my tandem!

We did a test ride at Heather Farm to make sure we were compatible tandem partners - PASS!
I need some new tires though.

Kinda hot too.

Wildlife Encounter:  turkey at Turtle Creek

This guy from Tucson was talking to us at Junction
and suddenly just fell over, in a classic

2016 SMR 15

Roadkill Report:  Jackrabbit at the nursery.

I think I should have waited.

Waiting for JB

Wildlife Encounter:  deer at the horse ranch.

Hmmm, not sure if I need my rain jacket or not.

Winds in the east, mist coming in.
Like somethin' is brewin' and bout to begin.
Can't put me finger on what lies in store,
But I fear what's to happen all happened before.

This couple was just ahead of us the whole way to Junction (see third photo above)...
but I had to outsprint them for the line... it was a matter of honor.

Above Junction, the fog and mist got a lot thicker.

Cleared up a little bit just before Summit.

Then it rained pretty good all the way down.

Riding in the rain, is life
