Junction and Around

Waiting at the Gate, Dolan and Terry, a couple from the Club, showed up so I started with them. We got about a mile before they announced they were training for the Death Ride. Dolan took off and Terry lagged a bit and I was caught in the envelope of hell.



Ranger Carl warned that there was a washed out section of road just below the Upper Washout... turned out to be no big deal but if they can keep the heavy vehicles out of that lane it'll last a lot longer.

I stopped at Junction but Dolan had already gone up Summit Road.

Then JB and Peter showed up. JB and I went down SGR and back around. Update: the curb on Green Valley Road that bordered the too-narrow bike lane has now been completely removed.

Saw this nice Klein at my health club Friday. Looks like a dedicated criterium machine from the early '90's.

Blog reader BayBruin contacted me about my Bike Friday tandem. His son is autistic and too big for the trailercycle but we thought a tandem like mine would work out so they came over for a test ride. Judging from the big smiles they'll be ordering one soon.

Gate - Muir FOGGY!

Weather.com reported that the rain would stop by 7am and they were right on the money.

And when I say foggy, I mean foggy. All the way up, with a few clear spots where the view wasn't bad.

JB was a no show. Hardly any bikes or cars on the road.

Roadkill Observation: Frog

We had a pretty severe wind storm yesterday, I expected quite a mess on the road but it was fine; no trees down or anything.

At Juniper the fog was so thick you could barely see the road. By Muir I gave up and turned around.

Gate - Junction - Kiosk - Gate

We were surprised with good weather this morning - the rain all was diverted south. So it was cool and foggy but dry and no wind. Peter, JB, and I all got to the Gate at about the same time.

I'm about 75% done with my bronchitis... it was still like riding sick, but not so bad as last week. JB and Peter were about 5 minutes ahead by Chainbuster.

JB turned down, Peter went up, and I went down South.

I set up a Diablo Spy Cam on SGR

I was reading about the international space station this week and they had a photo of the exersize bike on board - what I thought was interesting is that it has Look pedals! Also, there's not much need for a saddle, but they have to strap themselves in to hold their bodies down while they crank.

Quickie Junc Run - I'm sick!

I've had a really bad chest cold for the last two weeks but today I decided I had to ride... It was pretty miserable though, coughing the whole way up.





Started a little early and made it to the Junction before JB and Peter arrived. Then I was spent.

Snow to blossoms in just a few weeks. The Mountain is returning to life.

Update on Treat Crossing: some interesting new work completed and we can finally understand that unusual footing.





Looks like those holes are for connecting the pieces together like dowels.
